Only wisdom I can give is that APC uses a non-standard RS-232 serial port pin out so you have to use their cable (or a custom made one) to connect to a 232 to 485 converter.
I know we have at least one customer using at least one Liebert UPS + groov (that system got to go to the Superbowl)!
