I’m working on a big project where I need to integrate DeviceNet network to our excising Opto code/system. Previously it’s was done using gateway and we pulled data from it, however I’m wondering if I can use SNAP-SCM-CAN2B to talk to DeviceNet directly, without gateway and associated overhead.
DeviceNet utilize CAN protocol, with certain differences, so theoretically it should be possible. I’m still learning on the details, but I would greatly appreciate any comments from more experienced users and gurus of industrial automation.
Sergiy - Have you considered using a Devicenet to Modbus-TCP gateway? I realize it adds extra expense, but it might save on engineering time. Here is an example of of one:
Hi Arun, thank you for suggestion.
Yes, that’ exactly what we are using right now. I was wondering if this can be done only Opto hardware as a physical layer is the same.
The difference only in protocol, or I got it wrong?
