PAC Display Config Error: "Cannot paste objects from OptoDisplay, projects older than ioDisplay R6.0a..."

Not sure what happened, but at some point I started getting a pop-up error in my project whenever I try to Duplicate an object in PAC Display Configurator (started happening in v10.2, I upgraded to most recent, and it’s still happening in v10.5c). “Cannot paste objects from OptoDisplay, projects older than ioDisplay R6.0a, or other incompatible sources”

  • It seems like something is corrupted, and I have no idea what
  • I can create a brand new object, try to duplicate it, and it still happens, so it’s not like I’m trying to copy/paste an actual old object
  • Copy/paste works just fine
  • I’ve already done the Autocorrect tags and regenerate tag names a million times
  • Around the same time, my PAC Display project started crashing after a few hours – not sure if they are related.

Any ideas for me? Thanks in advance! You guys are the best.

I’d hit up support with an issue like this.

It’s happening to me too. Just started a new project with the latest release and got it the first time I tried to copy a window object.

I did hit up support a while back – I can’t remember what they said, and then I didn’t follow up (my bad). It’s pretty weird – it’s only happening with one project on one computer – the same project on a different computer does NOT produce the same error, so I think it’s something with the install on that one computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled PAC Project on the “bad” computer, and it still happens, and I think that’s as far as I got trying to troubleshoot. So now I just use Copy/Paste instead of Duplicate, which is slightly annoying but not a big deal, because I have a work-around. I’m also on the latest release @tjcrusher - R10.5003.

Thank you so much for this heads-up, @tjcrusher and @ktgaston.

I will look into this issue today and see if I can reproduce it.

If I can reproduce the error, there is a chance a fix for it could make it into the R10.6a release of PAC Display.

Here is the error I’m getting in PAC Display. Again, it seems to be something with the COMPUTER, not necessarily with the PAC Project project. That being said, let me know if you’d like me to send you our zip file.

Thanks again for bringing attention to this.

Indeed as @ktgaston mentioned, doing a copy/paste seems to be a viable (though perhaps annoying) workaround.

I’ve reproduced the issue and implemented a fix that will be in R10.6a.

For the curious, Windows may occasionally report to PAC Display that the Windows clipboard is unavailable. If that happens when duplicating objects, PAC Display does not retry. It just shows you that misleading error message. Both of those items will be addressed in the next release.

Yes, I think you’re right. This error is going to be more pronounced on some computers than others.
