Automatic login on HDMI screen

A little bit of info how I have my setup.

I have a Groov EPIC and it is gathering information from boxes of product. The information that it’s gathering is serial numbers and weight and comparing them to a SQL database. I want the information that is in Groov View to be viewed by the operator, but not interactable. I have created a Groov View page, setup the way that I want it. I also created a Kiosk user, and I prevented the user from being able to log out, and I’ve hidden the top bar so all they see is the information on the screen. I will have a normal HDMI screen connected to the EPIC (doesn’t have touch abilities) and the EPIC will be out of reach from the operator.

Is there any way to get the kiosk user to automatically log in at boot?

I want auto login so someone doesn’t need to manually connect to the EPIC just to log in to show the information. And this would be helpful in case of a power outage or something of the sort.

I’ve seen that there was something close to this in this thread:

But there wasn’t much there.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

The auto log in requires a bit of shell work.
Do you have a shell license installed on the unit?
Are you pretty comfortable with Linux command line?

By pure coincidence I do have shell access due to a past endeavor.

And I love Linux, it is my main driver on my home machine. So I am pretty comfortable with it.

I am also interested in having groov view auto login. I have 15 controllers so going around making sure they all get log into after a reboot is kinda tedious. I have access to shell and I am familiar with linux.

Hi Beno,
I would also like to know how to do this.
I have Shell license and comfortable with Linux.
I have an annunciator set up on an EPIC system that is driven by Boolean information in data store managed by Node-RED. I intend to connect a monitor to the HDMI port on the EPIC. I don’t want to have to log into the EPIC system to bring up this display.

I think moving forward as a kiosk user option there should be a “does not require login” tick box.
Not sure what security impact that has but a disclaimer should resolve this. At the end of the day we are catering for a end user and 90% of the time the guys on the ground viewing the info do not require to log in. They just wanna see the information.

Hey Ben, could you send something my way too? This is something we’ve been looking for and are comfortable with.
