Access to SNAP-R1 Firmware 10.4

We have a fresh out of the package Gen1 SNAP-PAC-R1. When we attempt to update the firmware to the latest version (10.5g) available from the website, the updater fails with an “incompatible hardware” message.

Fortunately, I still had a copy of 10.4d saved, because without an update, our (PacControl 10.5) strategy wouldn’t load to the out-of-the-box firmware version.

Is this an issue where 10.4 needs to be kept available on the website for folks like us that might still have legacy SNAP PACs in the box? Or does the firmware need to be adjusted to upload successfully to the older hardware?

If you have an ftp client you can get all the previous versions from the ftp site. The site uses TLS with a self-signed certificate at port 990, so you need to use a client that will support that - I use WinSCP. User name anonymous with blank password.

PAC 10.x Firmware is at the following path

/Public_Folders_(Unsecured)/Archives_(Software_and_Firmware)/Firmware_Archives/SNAP-PAC_Firmware_Archives/Released/10.x

There are quite a few bug fixes between 10.4 and 10.5, so we’d rather you be running the later build.
There are two firmware files for the R1 controller, Im guessing you just grabbed the wrong one.

Take a look at this page which breaks down the firmware update files for the gen1 and gen2.

OK, in that case, there’s some conflicting information on the website. From the page you linked, titled “SNAP-PAC-R1 Controller Firmware”, the “download” link gets you a zip with two versions:

snap-pac-r1-gen2-R10.5g.bin
snap-pac-r1-R10.5g.bin

And presumably the latter is the one you want us to install.

Problem - there’s another page, with the perfectly cromulent title “Firmware for all SNAP PAC products.” Seeing a page with that title, there is absolutely no reason a user would suspect that they are in the wrong place.

But if you download the .zip file from THAT page, it has only this file:
snap-pac-r1-w-R10.g5.bin

There’s that sneaky little “w”, but that’s the only indication that that ISN’T the correct download for a SNAP PAC R1, especially given that the page title is, again, “Firmware for all SNAP PAC products.”

I would suggest either adding the R1 version to the larger zip file, or making clear on the latter page that it ISN’T a comprehensive zip file.

Yikes. Thanks so much for the detailed breakdown of where we have omitted that file.
Will forward it to the web team and firmware package makers.

Great, thanks!

I just confirmed that the 10.5 version from the page you linked will indeed install on our PAC. In the process, I realized that there is a link inside PAC Manager Itself that points at the page I linked in my post, which may explain why we were looking there.

For those finding this thread in a future time…

Clearly, we did not make things super clear, but the file is in the ‘Firmware for all SNAP PAC products’ download… (And in the file location linked from PAC Manager)

The tripping point is that its the last one in the list there… its a zip file, not a .bin file.
Waaaay to easy to skip over.

When you unzip that r1 file…

You find the same files as from the page I linked to.
So, yeah, its all there, it all works, its just not super clear.
I will work with the doc’s folk… My vote is to put the three files as .txt and the two .bins in the ‘all firmware’ file.
