OptoControl PID Loop Input Average Feature

In the input configuration area of adding a PID loop there is an option for “average”. The manual explains that selecting this box will average the input value prior to the PID calculation.

Can someone give me the specifics of the averaging. How many sample does it take and over what period? Is it a rolling average?

Thanks,
Craig

Re: OptoControl PID Loop Input Average Feature

Hi Craig,

You can see all the details of how to set up the ‘average’ in the OptoControl Manual (document 724) on page 10-45.
You will find the help on the command ‘Set Analog Filter Weight’ on page S-2 of the OptoControl Command Reference manual (document 725).

Briefly, you set the analog filter weight for the input channel, note that you don’t have to use the filtered value for that channel, you just have to set it so you can use it on the PID.
You then tick the box in the PID configuration dialog. This tells the PID to use the filtered value from that channel rather than the raw analog value.
Thats it. You should save the configuration to flash, or set the filter weight in the power up chart (ie, you only want to set it once, not again and again).
(Slightly more advanced, but you can also set the PID control word (page S-29 in doc 725) do the same thing).

Hope that helps, let us know if you have any more questions.

Ben.
